why do i feel like NOT watching after reading that review?? lol. if anything, i like brainless movies (as long as they're not corny or "plotless" or ridiculously far-fetched). but ok i may watch. does it matter much that i haven't watched any batman show or read the comic? i don't even know what weapon batman uses or what he does at all lol. btw does the discounted price hold for the tertiary student card? oh i'm so stupid i gave my old ezlink up :(
let's meet up someday dudes. i haven't seen you guys in ages. haha.
btw, yes the batman-joker exchange was funny.

Movie review (and analysis)!
I watched The Dark Knight today. This being Heath Ledger's swan song in Hollywood, I thought I didn't want to miss it on the big screen.
First off, let me commit a major trangression of film review and quantify the movie's (perceived) value - 3.5/5. Why 3.5/5? I don't know really. It just feels like it.
Anyway let me move on to a more qualitative assessment of this show.
I like TDK because it's got brains. It is thought provoking in so many ways. The nature of an action hero film like this is such that you're presented with opportunities to explore a myriad of themes. Heroism is in itself a theme that's explored in TDK. Who is a hero? Is Batman one? And then you're faced with the multiple facets of Batman's situation; Batman's role in society, making major choices for his city, is sometimes appreciated but at other times, loathed.
Morality is also a theme that permeates the show. Can we all agree on what is moral? Obviously not, as seen from the many moral controversies that have arisen in the world today. The inability to converge in our moral understandings is a reason why Batman's role as a hero can be disputed. His choice of action is more often than not questionable. And if morality is not universal, then what can be said of it? Someone in the movie says "the only justice in an unfair world is chance" (or something like that) which suggests morality may not even exist after all.
TDK also does not fail to provide the audience with insights of the characters. I am particularly fascinated by the Joker himself. Why does his do what he does? Can his cruelty be justified? Bruce Wayne's butler, assistant and confidante says the following which is very telling of the Joker:
One of the plus points of this movie is that it spews forth many brilliant dialogues, many of them coming from the antagonist, the Joker. Here are a few:
And this is funny:
Haha.
The only thing I didnt really like about this show is that it's too long. Being lengthy is not a bad thing per se. But when you begin to feel it, then you know the show has lost you somewhere. I guess that's why I'm giving TDK only 3.5 out of 5.
Ok i'll stop spoiling it for those of you who havent caught the movie yet. Do catch it when u can! Oh and I'd recommend u to watch it on weekdays, before 5pm. And bring your student card along with you, so u can enjoy $6 movie tickets. Anywhere, cathay, gv, eng wah, shaw..you name it.

Joker: This town deserves a better class of criminal... and I'm gonna give it to them.

Batman: Let her go.
The Joker: Hmm.. Very poor choice of words.
Haha.

Oh looks like I've missed out on some camp fun! Maybe I really should take part in the USP camp after all.
Anyway last night was one of the most intense nights I've had, in part due to the final showdown between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the Wimbledon men's singles final, and in part due to the stomachaches that made me rush to the toilet for more times than I care to count. Actually I did count. I went to the toilet like 5 times the whole night! Thanks to some hawker food I had eaten hours earlier I believe.
Anyway the rain in London suspended the match at the 3rd set, which was both an annoyance and relief. The match was stopped indefinitely and I was wondering if I should stay up til it resumed. But I was also hoping the sudden intermission would allow Fed to come back stronger and break Nadal's lead in the first 2 sets. Don't know why I've suddenly become a Fed supporter. Probably because he just endears to me more than Nadal. I heard the crowd cheering for Nadal most of the time though. But this was probably because everyone wanted to see different 'hero' emerge this time. Fed winning Wimbledon for the sixth consecutive time wouldn't be as sensational as Nadal upsetting him for the first time at the Wimbledon finals.
Anyway I missed the match when it resumed only to find out much to my disappointment this morning that Nadal had claimed victory. But then again having watched him play, I have to admit he is a worthy winner. But, you know what, as Federer said at the end of the day, he would be back next year.
Oh, and the cap Roger Federer's wearing is so cool! :

So I did some research and this is the cap:

That is such a cool monogram isn't it? Anyway inspired by Roger Fed's monogram, I've come up with one for myself (heheh):

Can you see my initials in it?? Of course it ain't as cool as the RF monogram, but hey I still quite like it:D
That's all folks:)

camp
hey everyone!
i'm back from the psychology camp after spending 4 days and 3 nights there. In all,i think it was pretty well organised. The camp comittee was quite efficient,so we didn't have to wait long in between the actitvities.Haha and i must say that everyone was quite enthu about the activities. There was a lot of running around and cheering to be done, especially under the sun.I was trying hard to remain enthu, but for someone like me who gets tired easily,it was certainly quite difficult:p
And we were split into clans,my clan was called james bond(dunno how the camp committee came up with such a random name). There were in total 6 clans.Haha and in total there were only abt 7 guy freshmen in the whole camp. Then on the first day i was pleasantly surprised when i found out that everyone would have their own room. But i was feeling quite lonely at night. It feels weird to sleep alone, especially in a foreign place.I couldn't sleep well on the first night,i think i slept for only abt an hour plus.On the first night there was an activity which was abt walking in a ghosthouse, looking for spirits and completing tasks given to us.We had to go separately in pairs. So i went with a girl into a really dark corridor with many doors.I dunno why i was so scared, but i guess i just couldn't stand the idea that a 'ghost' may just pop up suddenly,or someone may just grab me from behind anytime.Haha i can't stand that kind of shocks, esp in a pitch dark place. We had quite a scare there(tell u all the details when we meet:p).My hands were trembling after that, haha didn't know i was so timid:p
Oh and there was an activity which i can vividly remember. We were playing the amazing race, then at 1 of the stations the task was that all of us(there were abt 6 of us) had to finish a plate of nasi lemak tgt.And we couldn't use utensils,we had to use our hands, and we couldn't feed ourselves,we had to feed one another.Oh and in order to win more points guys can only feed girls, and vice versa. The funny thing was that our group had only 1 guy,so all of us were stuffing that poor guy with food, and he had to feed us too.So he had to chew non-stop.It was really quite disgusting, bcos we had to eat the chilli sauce too,so we had to mix the rice with the chilli sauce, all done using our hands.I felt like throwing up when i had my first mouth of rice.So after that our faces were all smeared with chilli sauce and rice, super disgusting.
Oh haha and i must boast abt this:pOur group won the best clan award!:p,even though we had the least no. of ppl, bcos some had to leave halfway.I guess i owe it to my really enthu clan members.
Haha so that was some of the things we did.It was quite tiring for me,my whole body was and is still aching..haha so im glad to be back!
